What began as individuals in September has become an organized group in May. The Leadership Weatherford group bonded back in September with an overnight retreat. This group really took the commitment of this program to heart. Each month they learned more of their community and what it is made up of. They were introduced to City & County government in October with talks by Sharon Hayes, Assistant City Manager at the time and County Judge Mark Riley. In November, Randy Cox spoke on giving back. One of the best ways to give back is to learn the various charities that are a part of the community. There were 9 of the main charities represented to tell the group of their programs with tables set up to show what they do. January was all about Health Care with Dr. David Orcutt from WRMC and Randall Young from the Parker County Health District. February was Education with the class hearing from Dr. Hanks, WISD Superintendent, and at Curtis Elementary. The class also heard from Dr. Eaton, WC President, who also gave a tour of the campus. Dennis Clayton, Economic Development for Weatherford, spoke to the class in March and was instrumental in setting up tours of Keg 1O’Neal, RIM Manufacturing, Power Service Products & Jamak. April was Agriculture/Equine with Jon Green, County Extension Agent, giving the class the importance of these to our community. The class then had tours at Hutton Fruit Farm, Larry Walden’s, Weatherford Equine Medical Center and Oswood Stallions. The class culminated with graduation on May 8. The class now has a better understanding of the makeup of our community. We look forward to great things!
